Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi has taken to his Twitter page precisely three hours ago to address his plight concerning the use of intimidation to silence opposition in both campaigns and elections.
He explains in the tweet that elections shouldn’t be regarded as free and fair if intimidation is used by an association to quiet down its opposition.
Also, he said that peaceful gathering and electioneering campaigns are entrenched in the Constitution, and they shouldn’t be violated by security personnel.
He created awareness of how his supporters(Obedients) are being arrested by security personnel and their actions are unsettling and unacceptable.
The Flag bearer of The Labour party addressed the need for a sense of equality for eligible citizens during the upcoming elections despite their religion, ethnic background, or political relations
Hence they shouldn’t be disenfranchised and most importantly through violence and intimidation.
He urged the Federal and State governments to remind law enforcement of the need of safeguarding the civil rights of citizens.
“Recent reports of OBIdients being silently arrested by some security agents is extremely disturbing and condemnable. We must ensure that everyone is given a level playing field in the forthcoming elections, and that no eligible Nigerian, irrespective of ethnicity, religion,
or political affiliation is disenfranchised, more so through violence and intimidation. I call on the Federal and State agencies to remind their operatives on the need to respect civil liberties. -PO”, he stated.
