The Minister of information and Culture has urged African leaders to increase investment in the creative sector for the creation of wealth and jobs.
In a speech at the conclusion of the sixth Edinburgh International Cultural Summit in Edinburgh, Scotland, the minister made the plea. He suggested that African ministers get together, examine the creative industry, and then lobby various governments to increase their investments there.
He cited a list of African nations whose educational policies in the fields of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics have an impact on labor market development. The Minister added that Nigeria has recognized the issue and had modified its policies and programs to incorporate the creative industry.
He used the $100 million pledge as an example, saying that it will be used to reformate the National Theatre of Lagos and build centers for technology, fashion, music, and film. He added that the sector would benefit from the proper infrastructure being provided by these institutes.
