Samuel Ortom, the governor of Benue State, has accused President General Muhammadu Buhari and the APC, the party in power, of upholding their pledge to give the nation to Nigerians in their manifesto.
Because of the APC’s abject performance in the past seven years since it ousted the Peoples Democratic Party as the ruling party, Ortom predicted that the party will lose the elections in 2023.
“They (APC) have kept their promise to take Nigeria from top to bottom. They have taken our country beneath the bottom. It’s a big shame. For us in the PDP, the onus rests on us to mend the cracks in our party. No external influence will do that for us. By the grace of God, we will reach a successful end so that we can move on,”he continued.
Speaking about potential problems and difficulties with the next elections, Ortom emphasized the need for the Independent National Electoral Commission to maintain its objectivity and professionalism.
He persisted in providing instances from the just completed elections in the states of Ekiti and Osun to support the procedures while urging the commission to uphold the norms of engagement in the general election of 2023.
So long as INEC is as professional and neutral as it was in Osun and Ekiti states, I don’t see the APC winning the elections”, He stated.
Ortom claimed that the APC cannot win the 2023 elections based on his more than 40 years of experience in local, state, and even federal politics.
