Justice Emmanuel Obile of the federal high court in Port Harcourt, yesterday disqualified Tonye Cole from running as the All Progressives Congress (APC) Gubernatorial candidate in Rivers State.
The Peoples Democratic Party(PDP) in Rivers State had brought a suit seeking to disqualify Tonye Cole over allegations that the APC party primaries that brought in Cole were flawed, and not supervised by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
One George Orlu and four other aspirants had earlier filed a case before the court seeking the nullification of the APC primaries on the grounds of their alleged exclusion.
The APC would certainly appeal this judgement, but it just maps out a troubling pattern in Rivers State, where the PDP approaches the courts to disqualify its opponents just before elections, in order to sweep the elections in landslide victories.
