England head coach, Gareth Southgate has revealed his team will take the knee in their upcoming match against Iran in the World Cup to show solidarity against racial abuses and injustices.
Since the passing of George Floyd in 2020 in America , the taking the knee gesture had become widespread in sports.
The English National team has decided to re-enact the gesture in the tournament.
“It’s what we stand for as a team and have done for a long period of time,” the coach stated.
“We feel this is the biggest arena and it’s a strong statement that will go around the world for young people, in particular, to see that inclusivity is very important.”
